LATEST E-MAIL ON THE LIMERICK CATERPILLAR FREE ZONE CAMPAIGN

Thank you so much for your support. Just to fill you in on developments Tuesday. The leaders of the various political parties and the independents (who have the majority on the Council) met with the county Manager and the Mayor prior to the monthly Council meeting, which I attended. On speaking to them after the meeting they told me that they had decided against taking any decision on the matter until they have had an opportunity to meet with us.. They have invited us to met with them in the Mayors office, hopefully next week to see how best to progress the matter. I impressed on the Mayor the importance of getting a decision made prior to the Caterpillar shareholders meeting on the 13th April.

Basically they have kicked to touch and I believe they are stalling, waiting to see which way the wind blows on this one. If they feel this issue can be quietly parked then they will find any number of legitimate reasons why they can't adopt such a motion. However if the global significance of their deliberations can be impressed upon the Councillors I believe they can be persuaded to put the motion to a vote. Having spoken to about half of the Councillors, all have expressed support for the motion and are sympathetic and none of the Council members have had anything negative to say about the proposal. But as the Mayor told me "they don't see it as a priority". There are no local votes in this one so naturally its not of great concern.

In the meantime we will endeavor to draw as much local media attention to this as we can. However the importance of the global aspect of this issue can have a bearing if enough people can be persuaded to email the Mayor and all the other Councillors. Thank you for your support but don't stop yet we need a lot more people to lobby for this.

Given below are the email addresses of all the Councillors and the Mayor, if you can persuade people to send mail to each of them than I am sure that they will not be able to ignore the weight of international opinion.
